SLFP MP's telephones tapped...

As a result of recent activities and behaviours of the Ministers, the government is tapping the private telephones of the government MPs as a measure to suppress the direct and indirect resistance of the Ministers and MPs to the President and the government.

SLFP-People's Wing Chief Convener Mangala Samaraweera said in an interview with the Lakbima newspaper that the government had commenced to tap telephones of each SLFP MP.

When Lanka-e-News further enquired about it, Mr. Samaraweera said that National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had imported state of the art equipment to tap telephones and they are especially used to listen to the private telephones of the government MPs.

Mr. Samaraweera said to Lanka-e-News that not only land phones but also the mobiles of the MPs were tapped and it is proved by one incident related to Mr. Anura Bandaranaike. While the senior Minister Anura Bandaranaike was returning after meeting one of his associates, a government chief had called to Mr. Bandaranaike and stated something mentioning about the person he met.

Mr. Samaraweera said that the equipment to tap the telephones had been imported for the use of NIB.
