A sign of country's development?

Good thing that our team qualified for the ICC cricket world finals. And it is also a very good thing that our President Mahinda Rajapaksha going to watch the match in Caribbean.

But the bad thing about this is the other 60 people who goes with the president. This would end up the total visitor number being more than 100 with children & wives factor. This will give the international community a bad image about our country. See how we were humiliated by the China visit of our president with 250 others. China has showed very clear signs that Sri Lanka being a nuisance and a burden in their tour to china. The painful factor behind this is these people enjoy grand food, hotels, transport & other facilities by the taxes paid by even the poorest people who barely secures at most one meal per day.

So, this is to advice our president, that he should refrain from doing such silly things to keep up his popularity. He should put his energy in to more useful things to people whom he was elected the President. Not the henchman who are backstabbing him or mis-use his powers.

As long as the President is on the right track, people will march behind him. I hope that people will not turn back in a hurry...

Ranil quits "Gangarama" for good...

Opposition leader Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe has decided to resign from all the posts he was bearing in the Gangarama temple “Dhayaka Sabha”, due to the mischievous behaviour of the Galaboda Gnanessara thero (or "Podi Hamuduruwo"). Gnanessara thero was famous for supporting UNP during the Premadasa era as well as during 2001-2004
UNP governing period.

Gnanessara thero has recently published a statement giving Mr. Wickramasinghe advice that he should stop his undisciplined actions which does not suit a national leader. According to the thero, Ranil has been acting with very poor qualities as the opposition leader. But as you all can remember, Ranil was welcomed by Gnanessara thero with a crown when he was elected the prime-minister in 2001. Thero was addressing him "Ranil hamu".

Mr. Wickramasinghe also said that before his foreign visit last week, he went to Gangarama temple & got blessings from Gnanessara Thero. Mr. Wickramasinghe was amazed that he was not given such advice at that moment. Mr. Wickramasinghe stated that the thero's behaviour is not acceptable as a Buddhist monk. "The moon lights up
the whole earth without choosing where to light up, accordingly monks should also show the correct path to all the people without considering any good or bad habits of them". Mr. Wickramasinghe quoted some phrases from Buddhist sermon books & the "Thripitakaya" to answer the thero's statement. So from here on, he will no longer
be the main contributor of the Gangarama temple's "Dayaka Sabha".

Now we can come to conclusion that Gnanessara thero was not enemies with the SLFP or UPFA. Thero only hated the "Bandaranaikes". And it’s a shame that monks do not stop activities in connection with dirty politics in a country like Sri Lanka.

Will Johnston Fernando join Sripathi?

The Lake-House newspaper "Silumina" which was known as the "University of 50 cents" at it's golden era, now seems to run out of Headlines. Today's headline was saying in large letters that former Sports minister & UNP M.P. Mr. Johnston Fernando has failed to give back even his food cooking pans ("Hatti mutti").

The recent activities of this drowning government has clearly proved that anyone who criticize it should taste the food of Welikada Prison. The fraud investigation unit informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate today that the government has suffered loses worth around 550,000 rupees due to the damages caused to the chairs, tables, office equipment, kitchen equipment and etc. in the official house used by UNP Kurunegala district parliamentarian Johnston Fernando when he was the minister of sports and youth affairs.

The Fraud commission seeks the permission of the court to proceed with the case and and present the suspects before the court.

Johnston Fernando revealed during a media briefing last week that the government was attempting to arrest him and several other active UNP MPs.

One thing is clear as crystal. If President Mahinda Rajapaksha had an honest thought about the country's future, his first action as the president should have been to make Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe his Prime minister and give him responsibilities of foreign affairs so that he could tighten the net he put on the LTTE when he was on power. Then the president would have been more popular and his name would have been immortal in Sri Lankan history.
