JVP going down rapidly ???

Recent events shown that there is a rapid downfall in the JVP which is supposed to be a party with serious discipline and regulation aspects. It has been reported that senior members of JVP has started violating these rules & regulation to hide their mis-behaviours. This has led to some serious problems within the party and its members and also JVP's newspaper "Lanka".

Publishing of the "Lanka" news paper, published by the JVP, Lanka Multi Publishers Company Private limited, has been temporarily suspended due to a financial issue.

The "Lanka" newspaper was being published every Friday but was not issued today.

When the editorial was questioned, why the paper was not published, a spokesperson said it was not printed due to a technical fault. When we asked whether it would be published next week he said it is doubtful due to the present circumstance. When LeN go in touch with the editor of the "Lanka" news paper Dharma Sri Kariyawasam he said the paper was in a financial crisis as it does not receive any advertisements and that any political party doesn't help them.

The paper is being published in the Upali Printing corporation in high level road and it is being reported to 'LeN' that since the "Lanka" paper owes them 18 million rupees, they have refused to print the paper. Earlier the paper has been printed at the Standard printing corporation and it is being reported that "Lanka" owes them 5.5 million rupees as well.

The "Lanka" newspaper that spoke highly about war and stood for the war therefore owes more that 23 million rupees to printing presses.

I believe that in order to restore the glory of this once great party, Wimal Weerawansha should apologize of his mis-behaviours in front of the country and start as a fresh politician in a correct way. Or else it would be the end of him as well as the JVP.

Mangala wants his previous ministry, none other...

Though there are rumours that Mangala Samaraweera has surrendered to Mahinda Rajapaksha like Anura did, they're not quite right up to now. Since there were some private meetings with Mahinda & Mangala, people and especially those who praises this government made up their minds that the government is stabilized again. But it is being reported that former minister Mangala Samaraweera has on formed the president that he would reassume duties if he stops the campaign against Sripathi Suriarachchi and Tiran Allas and if the head of state makes sure that an atmosphere like on the 9th of February wouldn't occur again.

Sources say that Mangala's previous portfolios were given to Chamal Rajapakse because some of the department heads and union leaders had told the government officials not to reappoint him to the ministry as he might take revenge from them.

Samaraweera has rejected an offer made by the president asking him to take over the ministry of irrigation, saying that he cannot look into a ministry that he doesn't know anything of. Then the president has offered the ministry of Urban Development. Samaraweera has turned down that offer as well saying that he cannot afford to create a brawl with Minister Dinesh Gunawardena by doing so, despite him liking the ministry very much.

Former minister Mangala Samaraweera is scheduled to leave for London on the 19th of May.

Governer of Western Province gets blasted by the President

Looks like even the Governor of the Western Province Alevi Maulana who
was always in a neutral position in the Mahinda, Mangala, Shripathi
incident has to face the harsh words of the president, who was not
feeling too good emotionally over a blasting given to him by the
president has been admitted to hospital after he suddenly fell sick.

The president had reprimanded Maulana yesterday morning at temple
trees for not bringing Mangala Samaraweera along with him to assume
duties. The president in a high tone had asked Maulana "whom are you
working for, are you working for Mangala or me. If you said that
you'll bring him, you should bring him. You put me in shame".

After this incident Maulana had fallen ill and is being treated in the
Intensive Care unit of a private hospital. "I have worked with Mrs.
Bandaranaike very closely. She has never blasted me like this," the
governor had told Samaraweera when Mangala visited him in hospital.

Is Mahinda loosing his trusted allies one by one ???

Another cross-over from the opposition. What will happen to the country?

Looks like another set of UNP MPs are tired of being "just MP". I am not trying to praise, but they should learn from the SLFP who were in the opposition for 17 full years, before they regained power once more, which they enjoy at the maximum these days. SLFP suffered those 17 years becasue of the UNP, so UNP should also do the same.

Another conspiracy is once surfacing against the leader of the opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe.

A specialty of the conspiracy this time is the fact that three of the MP's whom Wickremesinghe said were close to him and were granted with high ranking positions in the party, been engaged in the conspiracy.

One of the main figures behind the conspiracy told, the reason for the conspiracy is the dictatorship that is in the party leadership. Our source also said that UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake, who fought hard for the party and for the sake of the opposition leader when the Karu group left the party, is also on a disappointed note these days. He also told us that Attanayake had told a UNP MP who crossed over to the government recently that they should have stayed in the party because now Wickremesinghe doesn't care for those in the party now. Recently when Attanayake presented a document to the opposition leader regarding some matter, he had put it a side even without reading it.

Meanwhile a conflict has arisen between MP Vajira Abeywardena and Former chairman Malik Samarawickrema and sources say that Vajira is refusing to give up the fight until Malik is removed from the party. Wickremesinghe has also intervened to solve the issue but Vajira had openly rejected Wickremesinghe and showed his dissatisfaction regarding the recent developments by not participating at the first protest rally, against the government, organized by the party in Gampola recently. Reports say that Abeywardena was taken to China along with the opposition leader to comfort the disheartened MP.

Another group of UNP MPs are reported to be bargaining with a Minister who joined the government ranks from the opposition recently, and one of them are Kurunegala district parliamentarian Jayawickrema Perera. Apparently the UNP MPs are talking about a coalition government and requested the consent of the president to do so. When the minister bargaining the deal approached the president with the matter the head of state had given the nod. Then one of the Kandy UNP MP's had said that the president should invite the opposition leader to do so.

Three main figures of the party have given there consent for a coalition government and two of them have recently gone and met with some politicians who were involved with the previous conspiracy to discuss further.

A separate group is reported to be proposing a UNP Colombo district MP to be appointed as the deputy leader of the party. When the disputes within the party are intensifying it is also being reported that six other MPs are discussing with some government officials to cross over to the government. Our source said some of them are those one would not even believe will cross over to the government. When one of the leaders had spoken to a MP who joined the government ranks recently to come back to the opposition he had said, "Don't bother to get us back. Already another group from your side is discussing with us to join the government."

UNP has got a leader who's best disciplined among other politicians. And he's the most patient one UNP has ever got.
So, UNP MPs should tie up their belts and work harder, rather than crossing over and ruin their political careers.

Heights of Shamelessness...

Considering the rapid globalization happenning in the world, we all know that being a non-developed country, either we like it or not, we have to depend on foreign aid, if we're to survive. But why do our fake patriots try to convince people that we need not to??? This is because we're in a country which has the dirtiest politicians in the whole wide world.

Here's an example that clarifies the dirtiness of them. Actually its our president.

"If we are offered genuine aid we will take it; if not we will forget about aid and do our job. We will not be dependent on aid", said President Mahinda Rajapaksa commenting on the reported suspending of aid by the UK, addressing editors and media heads from the Sri Lankan media, at Temple Trees today.

When asked for his views on the reported stopping of aid by the UK Government, President Rajapaksa said this could be a reference to post-tsunami aid offered to Sri Lanka.

"We will use our own money. We cannot wait for assistance from any sources to carry out our responsibilities", the President added.

Referring to the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons, President Rajapaksa said the work of resettlement in the East had been initiated and was being successfully done. The media had reported that there were several lakh IDPs in the East, but it was now known that the actual figure was much less. The delay in their resettlement was because the mines buried by the LTTE had to be cleared and the people had to be provided with necessary utilities before resettlement.

"Today, we use our own money for the resettlement work. We did not wait till the INGOs came with their money. The work is going on successfully. We are providing electricity to the people being resettled. New roads are being built in these areas. These are the causes for delays, but they are not
reported", he said.

President Rajapaksa said he had told all officials carrying out resettlement work that there should be no difference in treatment for people from the South and the North and East. They should all be treated alike.

"The work of resettlement, whether the tsunami displaced or those displaced due to the conflict is the responsibility of the Government. We will discharge this obligation whether we get aid or not", the President said.

Another record braking partnership...

Many raise suspicions regarding the transparency of the selling of 25.3% of the shares, owned by Nippon telegraph and telephone corporation, of Sri Lanka Telecom to a Malaysian company.

The main reasons for suspicions develop is the cabinet paper presented by the finance minister on the 27th of last month seeking the permission of the cabinet to sell the shares to a Malaysian company called Maxies Telecommunications holdings. It is said that the minister of posts and telecommunications is clueless regarding the deal. The finance minister was seeking the approval of the cabinet to okay to sell shares worth 6 billion rupees to the Malaysian company.

The other reason to look into is, why the Malaysian company wants to buy the Sri Lankan Telecom shares. The president has appointed a committee to consider the request made by the finance minister and the committee has its mandate only to consider the particular Malaysian company for the deal.

A question arises as to why the Malaysian GTH company is the best in the world for the deal which will own of the telecom shares. None of the other companies or agencies from the international have not been invited to quote in either. It seems that this deal is being carried out to fulfill the needs of some one big. On the other hand the 28,000 other share holders who own 15% of the shares too has a right to know the facts and figures of the deal.

Currently the government owns 49.5 %, the Japanese NTV organisation 35.2% and the public 15.3 %. What the government is proposing is to sell 25.3% percent of the shares owned by the Japanese company which leaves the Japanese company with only 9.9% of the shares. According to the constitution of the SLT that was established during the initial public offering anyone who doesn't have over 10% of the shares cannot appoint a representative to the executive board of the company, which means now the Malaysian company could appoint a member of their desire to the executive board. According to the existing rule in the company the government could appoint 5 members to the committee including the chairman while the company holding the next highest percentage could appoint four members including the chief executive officer. It's the CEO who has more authority over the day to day activities of the company, vacancies and financial activities.

The owner of the Malaysian company to which the government is about to hand over the shares of telecom to, Ananda Krishnan's parents are said to be immigrants from Jaffna to Malaysia. The employees of telecom therefore point out that under the existing threat of the LTTE being involved with several financial fraud, this might be a dangerous move. The Telecom Company recorded a net profit of 130 billion rupees last year.

According to information available the shares owned by the Japanese company is worth 225 million US dollars and are to be sold for 260 million dollars. Sources say that an under hand deal of 25 billion rupees will proceed under hand.

After the take over the Malaysian company is planning on cutting down the present 8,000 work force of the company to 3,000 according to the employees. It is also being said that the Malaysian company has been simply given the opportunity to review the overall company.

The Malaysian company's specialty is in mobile telecommunication and sources say that they do not have any experience in handling a cable television network.

According to information available to 'LeN' the background for the deal has been set by a person from Medamulana, namely Medamulana Rathnayake Ralahami. The fianc of his daughter is suppose to be working for the relevant Malaysian company. Krishna wanted to hit the gold mine through the employee. Therefore the Ralahami had met an old friend who is a top government official and asked for his help to proceed with the deal. Then the top government official had handed over job to his two brothers who are businessmen. One of the brothers are married to a famous actress, reports say. However they did not get the intended BIL of the Ralahami to the deal, instead got a person called Ralf Marshal to co-ordinate the deal from Krishnan's end. The two brothers had in return demanded for money to buy equipment for a radio station which they are suppose to be running. Accordingly Marshal has given them 10 million rupees.

As the two brothers were late on the job the top politician had appointed his private secretary the responsibility and Krishnan too removed Marshal and appointed his nephew Thirukrishnan to go ahead with the deal. The deal where it stands currently is the effort of these two. The top government official too has got the taste of the deal leisurely and is said to be tightening the relationship with Thirukrishnan.

The main reason for suspicions to surface is, the president who said before assuming duties that he would not privatize any government organisation, now looking to hand over the deal to a Malaysian company without a proper tender procedure and to an inexperienced company in cable telephone networks. Another reason for suspicions to develop is the fact that subject minister Rauf Hakeem is also remaining tight lipped.

Don't change the Executive Presidency - Chief Justice advises the president

Looks like the chief justice is trying to secure his position like he did when Chandrika is in power. His attempts has made Chandrika to secure her presidency as well as to put SB in prison and make it easier for Mahinda to become Chandrika's successor. It is being reported that Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva has advised the president not to change the executive president system.

According to information available the CJ has advised the president in this regard when they met at temple trees last week to discus and amend the proposal presented by the SLFP to the ethnic conflict.

Ministers Maithripala Sirisena, Wishwa Warnapala, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga were also present for the discussion. They were discussing about changing the electoral system when the chief justice said that the executive presidency should not be changed. It is also being reported that a close ally minister of the president is also opposing the electoral system reforms proposed by a group of SLFP parliamentarians headed by Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

But the Mahinda Chinthanaya presented by President Mahinda Rajapakse before the election stated that he would abolish the executive presidency. It said that the president would bring about a new constitution with the consent of all relevant parties. The Mahinda Chinthanaya document also promised the public that the president would participate at parliamentary sessions once a month to ensure the credibility and the trust in the parliament.

It has been 15 months since president Rajapakse assumed duties and so far abolishing of the executive presidency and changing the constitution has not proceeded. Forget the hard ones, the promise that could be easily lived up to, which is being present in parliament once a month, is also not being kept by the president. The president has so far been in parliament only to propose the budget as the minister of finance.

The attempt made by Mangala, Anura, Ranil to form an alliance was foiled by Wimal- President (Lanka eNEWS)

President Mahinda Rajapakse says that he never proposed or intended to get Mangala Samaraweera to the government's ranks once again and present him a ministerial port folio.

Speaking to some officials of the Lake house at temple trees yesterday the head of state had said that Samaraweera came to meet him after speaking to Alevi Maulana and that they did not talk about any serious issues in politics before the two had dinner shile watching a world cup cricket match.

The Lake house employees were also served dinner by the president and sources say that the move was made to cut down the opposes made by Lake house employees for appointing Bandula Padmakumara as the head of the lake house.

The president with aggression had said that up-to-date he or the government has not been accused of any major issues but it was Mangala who made such an accusation when the opposition had nothing to shout about. He has also said that he was aware of the meeting which took place between Mangala, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the opposition leader to form an alliance but it was halted by Wimal Weerawansa.

The president who said that he had not forgotten the past and that he still remember the support given to him by the JHU and the JVP to come into power. He has said that he asked the JVP to come and work with the government once again but they didn?t and on many occasions he wanted to go for an election, but that he realized the JVP wouldn't even get the number of seats which they already have.

Mahinda Rajapakse had also said that his second option was to get a group from the UNP to join him and that's why he proceeded with it and elaborated that Mangala Samaraweera also agreed this.

Speaking about Bandula Padmakumara the president had said that he has decided to appoint Bandula for the chairman post and that he is a good friend of his for a long time. Then Dinamina editor Mahinda Abeysundara had strongly opposed this saying that Bandula was junior to him and that he worked with the UNP in the past election campaigns.

Rajapakse then reminded then that he is now working with so many UNP parliamentarians including Gamini Lokuge who held a pistol to his head and asked them in return, if so why they can't work with Bandula. The president has said that if any problems arise he would take care of them.

Accordingly Bandula Padmakumara will assume duties as the chairman of the lake house on Monday or Tuesday.

Bandula had apparently put forward one condition to the president before assuming duties which the president agreed to. Bandula had said that he wanted carry on the programme that he hosts every morning on a private television channel.
