Former Army spokesman and MP Major General Sarath Munasinghe warns that the LTTE is now gearing them self up to gain territory in the Jaffna Peninsula. He said therefore the situation is now turning bad.

Major Sarath Munasinghe has served the Army for over 30 years and has also been the commanding officer of the Northern Peninsula.

Addressing the media in Colombo this morning he said the attack launched by the LTTE in the seas off Delft early this morning, is a hint of what is being lined up. He said if the LTTE holds on to the island it would be a major disruption in providing supplies to the northern parts of the island.

Munasinghe briefed the media about the tactics of the LTTE. "LTTE has fired to Palali from the Punarin area using 130mm artilleries which has the capacity of firing 27 kilometers. Generally when such artilleries are being fired troops run for shelter. When they get in to the bunkers they can see a part of the land but not the sky. That is what happened the other day in Palali. First they fired artilleries and then a LTTE air craft and bombed the place.

The LTTE posses more than two air craft. Air craft came to Colombo bombed and went back to the Wanni without any disruptions. Some media reported this saying that LTTE air craft were chased away. If they can come to Colombo and bomb they could easily bomb the northern peninsula which is about 10 minutes away from them. So this is the situation in Palali and the situation of the troops there."

He added that Defense spokesperson minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that LTTE air craft will be destroyed if they are air borne once again, but challenges Rambukwella to give an assurance regarding the matter.

Major Munasinghe said at least now politics should be set aside to establish peace in the island because security forces are compromising many a things for the country.
