What's the origin of Rajitha's voice ???

The person who humiliated "Mahinda Chinthana" most, to be just a daytime dream of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksha, The Minister of Construction and Engineering Services Rajitha Senarathna enquires what kind of traitors are Tiran Alles and Sripathi Suriyaarachchi who collaborated ingiving money to LTTE, if Mahinda Rajapakse who has said given money to LTTE is a traitor.

The Minister raised this question at a press conference held in 'Seth Sevana' party headquarters. He said that Tiran Alles made arrangements to give money to the LTTE and Sripathi Suriyaarachchi said that he had the serial numbers of the currency notes given. Therefore, these two were the two major accused of this incident, said Rajitha.

He enquired if the Tigers were dying and some others were fleeing leaving behind the weapons, because of the given Rs. 200 million. The Minister said that the arguments of the SLFP (M) over giving money to the LTTE are political vulgarism.

Minister Rajitha Senarathna said that the country's rulers were hoodwinked by the LTTE in the past and banners should be displayed at each junction stating, The nation should tribute Basil who hoodwinked Prabhakaran for the first time in the history as his deal was historic.

Dirty Mahinda Chinthana...

UNP Secretary Thissa Aththanayaka said that the President, in fear of the ruling party internal tendencies to change sides at a critical moment, had phoned certain UNP MPs and proposed to give money and posts in the government.

Mr. Aththanayaka expressed sympathy for the condition the President had fallen to go after UNP MPs instead of solving the serious problems of the country.

The Secretary expressed these views at a press briefing held at the residence of the Opposition Leader to thank the public for the participation in the Janarala anti government campaign on 26th July at Colombo.

Mr. Aththanayaka said that the campaign would be held country wide until the government would be sent home. The series of campaigns schedule is as follows: August 10 - Mathara, August 17 - Anuradhapura, August 24 - Nittambuwa and September 8 - Hambanthota, the home district of the President.

Matara fires the first bullet...

A proposal to thank the President was defeated in Mathara Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) today. The proposal was defeated with a majority of 10 votes in the Mathara PS in which the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) holds power.

Eight of the nine SLFP MPs in the PS voted against the proposal to thank the President.

The proposal was brought to thank the President for appointing Upul Nishantha as the Mathara electoral organizer and Sosendra Handunneththi as the district organizer after removing Mangala Samaraweera from the posts he held. The proposal was made by Lasantha Sanjeewa and was seconded by Chairman Chandrasiri Devasurendra.

Only the members who proposed and seconded the proposal voted for it. Eight SLFP members and the four UNP members voted against the proposal. The two JVP members and the Communist Party member abstained voting.

Meanwhile, the Mathara Pradeshiya Sabha earlier passed a proposal to congratulate Mr. Samaraweera unanimously with all 18 MPs voting for it, after Samaraweera was removed from the portfolio.

Bad mouth Jeyaraj in action again...

Since LTTE can keep its power only if Ranil Wickramasinghe can be brought to power, the statement made by Jaffna district MP M.K. Sivajilingam at a discussion with terrorists that Ranil should be brought to power before the government's next attack, raises doubts of a conspiracy, says the Minister of Highways and the Government Chief Whip Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.

The Minister said that the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP Sivajilingam had said at a meeting held by the supporters of the LTTE in London recently that Ranil Wickramasinghe should be brought to power within this year. Fernandopulle said that the statement raise doubts of a conspiracy, as the TNA was a cat's paw of the LTTE.

He said that around 150 pro LTTE terrorists participated in this discussion, a considerable number in the context.

Minister Fernandopulle said at the press briefing held today at the Department of Information that Sivajilingam's statement had to be considered seriously, as they knew that after Thoppigala the targets of the next attacks were Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu.

The cat jumps out !!! The fish got caught by the mouth !!!

Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle was talking too much of things recently. It looks as if he was revealing all the secrets of LTTE and Mahinda Rajapaskha in the meantime The Minister of Highways and the Government Chief Whip Jeyaraj Fernandopulle vital information that proved that the president Mahinda Rajapakse had a serious urgency to build up a connections with the LTTE.

According to Fernandopulle, President's Adviser Basil Rajapakse met Mano Ganeshan, MP and the Leader of the Western People's Front to discuss the matter.

The Minister revealed this at the cabinet press briefing held today at the Department of Information.

Minister Fernandopulle was commenting on the statement made by Mano Ganeshan at the 'Janarala' rally held in the Hyde Park on 26 July, that Fernandopulle and Basil Rajapakse went to Ganeshan's house and discussed the possibility to obtain the LTTE's support.

Minister Fernandopulle admitted that he met Ganeshan and dined with him too, after a lengthy discussion.

Fernandopulle said that Ganeshan said that he had links with the LTTE and the members of the LTTE stayed with him when they came to Colombo. The discussion aimed not to give money to the LTTE and Ganeshan promised to discuss with Thamilchelvan to obtain support to Mahinda Rajapakse's Presidential campaign although he did not keep that promise, said Minister Fernandopulle.

The Minister further said that Ganeshan asked for a deputy minister portfolio and it was difficult to be granted at the moment as the President was Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumarathunga. MP Mano Ganeshan supported UNP candidate Ranil Wickramasinghe in the Presidential election.

When Lanka-e-News enquired from Mano Ganeshan about Fernandopulle's allegation he said that he did not agree to obtain an appointment from the LTTE on Fernandopulle's and Basil Rajapakse's request as the Western People's Front was supporting Ranil Wickramasinghes Presidential campaign by then.

He vehemently denied requesting a deputy ministerial portfolio and said that he would definitely ask for a vice presidency if he was to make such request.

Ganeshan said that the Fernandopulle and Basil Rajapakse genuinely wanted a link with the LTTE and therefore they came to his house and discussed. He further said that if Fernandopulle said that he invited him for the discussion, the sheer fact would also prove that the current rule needed a connection to the LTTE then.

CJ says "Aksharaya" should be destroyed...

The Supreme Court today (31) ordered the Public Performances Control Board to watch Ashoka Handagama's film 'Aksharaya' again and to give its decision on 06 August.

Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva said that the Supreme Court would take a suitable verdict following the Public Performances Control Board decision.

The Public Performances Control Board initially allowed the movie to be screened and the Minister of Cultural Affairs later recalled the permission and the director Handagama filed a petition to the Supreme court citing that the recall of the permission amounted to violation of his fundamental rights. The Chief Justice made the above observations at the hearing of the fundamental rights petition.

The Public Performances Control Board submitted an affidavit mentioning that the movie 'Aksharaya' based on the 'Oedipus complex' and according to it the relationships between mother - son and father - daughter are natural. The Board approves the film as suitable for adults to view.

The chief Justice enquired who that Oedipus was and asked if that kind of films could be shown in this country although such things could happen in the said Oedipus complex. He queried if the scene a woman magistrate is raped by a guard would not offend the judiciary. The Chief Justice said that it should be judged not by the director or the Public Performances Control Board but by the judiciary.

The Chief Justice said that the film that targets to demolish the courts system of the country should be destroyed and if it were allowed to be shown the 200-year-old judiciary system that is respected even by the LTTE would be spoiled.

The Chief Justice said that the offenders could be sentenced to jail for contempt to courts. He said that the artists could not do anything they wished. The Chief Justice also alluded that the Chairman of the Public Performances Control Board was an impotent who could not be sensitive to a sex scene.

Prof. Somarathna Balasuriya, Thissa Abesekara, Ashoka Handagama, Prasanna Vithanage and the members of the Public Performances Control Board were in the courts. The Chief Justice looking at them said that they could go on the road since there are courts and otherwise they would have to walk with guards.

The Chief Justice said that the intellect should be not in the breast but in the mind.

A panel of justices including Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, Nihal Jayasinghe and Jagath Balapatabendi considered the petition. Senior Counsel Upul Jayasuriya appeared for Ashoka Handagama.

Lawyer Rowland Perera appeared for the Public Performances Control Board while Deputy Solicitor General Palitha Fernando appeared for the Minister of Cultural Affairs.

SLFP MP's telephones tapped...

As a result of recent activities and behaviours of the Ministers, the government is tapping the private telephones of the government MPs as a measure to suppress the direct and indirect resistance of the Ministers and MPs to the President and the government.

SLFP-People's Wing Chief Convener Mangala Samaraweera said in an interview with the Lakbima newspaper that the government had commenced to tap telephones of each SLFP MP.

When Lanka-e-News further enquired about it, Mr. Samaraweera said that National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had imported state of the art equipment to tap telephones and they are especially used to listen to the private telephones of the government MPs.

Mr. Samaraweera said to Lanka-e-News that not only land phones but also the mobiles of the MPs were tapped and it is proved by one incident related to Mr. Anura Bandaranaike. While the senior Minister Anura Bandaranaike was returning after meeting one of his associates, a government chief had called to Mr. Bandaranaike and stated something mentioning about the person he met.

Mr. Samaraweera said that the equipment to tap the telephones had been imported for the use of NIB.
